“I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we’re living now.”
I am sure most of you have stumbled upon this novel before in your local bookstore or have probably even read a few quotes from it. Paulo Coehlo's The Alchemist is in short a magical novel about self-discovery. The main character is a young farmer boy named, Santiago who has dreams of seeing the world, but doing so proved to be more of a journey than he had planned. The countless adventures & misadventures of Santiago throughout his travels allows this young character to transform before the reader's eyes.
“No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn't know it.”
It is near impossible to read through The Alchemist without comparing yourself to characters within it. Coehlo does an excellent job of creating characters who are extremely relatable to his readers. We all strive to live a life of fulfilment whether that be in our personal lives or work lives. The power of dreams, self-fulfillment, and success are key themes within the novel making it highly favorable amongst readers. The story is full of inspiration and if you are needing a pick-me up novel or a new read I recommend The Alchemist which will without a doubt stir a new spirit of determination within you.

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity.”
